Parliament calls for action to reduce food wastage

The European Parliament has asked the Commission and the member states to draw up a coordinated strategy to reduce food wastage. Some 179 kg of food is wasted per person every year in the Union.In a resolution, adopted on 19 January in plenary in Strasbourg based on a report by Salvatore Caronna (S&D, Italy), MEPs call on the Commission "to take practical measures towards halving food waste by 2025 and at the same time preventing the generation of bio-waste".
