Energy at heart European Business Summit debate

Energy - security of supply and prices - was the common thread of remarks by the different speakers who opened the proceedings of the 11th European Business Summit, on 15 May in Brussels. A week ahead of a European Council dedicated to energy issues, this focus was probably not the result of sheer coincidence. The guaranteed availability of climate-friendly energy, at a competitive cost, was presented in turn by the head of BusinessEurope, the European employers' association, Juergen Thu-mann, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, and European Commission Vice-Presi-dent Antonio Tajani as the key to the future of European industrial activity and consequently to the return of growth in the EU.
