Gigaliners: Rendez-vous in 2016

A review of the authorised weights and dimensions for trucks in the EU passed through first reading in the European Parliament's plenary session in Strasbourg, on 15 April. The main outcome of the vote was to delay until 2016 any decision on whether or not large trucks - those more than 18 metres long and 40 tonnes in weight - will be able to circulate more freely in the EU, particularly the so-called gigaliners, which can weigh up to 60 tonnes and even more. Sweden is currently making plans for trucks of 74 tonnes.
