Ombudsman closes three complaints in favour of ECHA

The first complaint received by the European Ombudsman (1826/2010/ VL) concerns the type of information from registration files that ECHA can disclose under access to documents requests relative to the REACH Regulation EC 1907/2006 on the registration, evaluation and authorisation of chemicals. The complainant (a firm whose name was not disclosed) objected to the fact that certain information on tests on animals contained in its registration file had been made public. It argued that this information could be harmful to its business and intellectual property interests. After six months of exchanges, ECHA decided that the information had to be accessible to the public.
