Gender integration in NATO military forces: cross-national analysis

In Gender Integration in NATO Military Forces: Cross-national Analysis, Lana Obradovic examines the integration of women into NATO militaries through quantitative analysis of NATO member states' policies and in-depth qualitative analysis of four case studies. The key contributions of this book are twofold. First, the quantitative analysis of NATO member states' policies on gender integration makes an important contribution to the burgeoning field of feminist security studies, particularly in the context of current developments on the status of women in the military. Second, the book contributes a necessary gender analysis of the interaction between society and the military which claims to protect it. The book reaffirms the complex and contradictory relationship between gender and the military, and in doing so highlights the necessity of a feminist informed engagement with the issue, particularly the necessity of a gender analysis of military force transformation and modernization.
