Regulating Nanomaterials. Bottlenecks and Perspectives in EU Legislation on Chemicals and Products

The Cosmetics Regulation, as of July 2013, will be the first piece of EU legislation with operative nano-specific provisions, such as notification and labeling obligations for companies, a procedure to require additional information, and an obligation for the Commission to make nano-information publicly available. The scope of the nano-specific notification and information provisions is restricted by the definition of a nanomaterial and by the exemptions for certain categories of substances.
