New square as a prelude to urban renewal

Marstallplatz is one of the first sites to be elaborated within the scope of the HannoverCity 2020+ master plan. This square is to be built on the current site of an elongated car park and it will have a new building at either end. The positioning of these two new buildings and the square's multifunctional layout are in tune with the present and future structure of the town. Towards the banks of the river Leine, the volume of the new edifice is as open as possible vis-a-vis the square, so that the latter continues right down to the river. The other building is conceived as a 'stepping stone' towards the upmarket shopping street and entertainment district beyond. Marstallplatz's sloping surface will dictate the square's use.
