Sustained development of Istanbul

Over the next decades, the Metropolitan region of Istanbul is going to see considerable growth. Estimates are that, up to 2025, the population will expand to nine million people. Predicted patterns of growth foreshadow a fragmented urban development. Due to this, ecologically important areas will come under pressure. And disaster looms large as regards the main critical factor of such an explosive urbanization of the area: the water supply. Test Site Istanbul focuses on the municipality of Arnavutkoy which is situated in a river basis that is an important source of drinking water. Under the supervision of Joachim Declerck, one of the curators, an international team is working on this assignment in a multidisciplinary and 'multi-administrative' way.
