Cello-An ATM transport and control platform

Ericsson's WCDMA products for third-generation cellular system are based on Cello, a generic platform for small-to medium-scale telecom applications. Cello has a robust, distributed, real-time telecom control system, and low-cost ATM, TDM or IP transport. The transport system is built on AMAX, an ATM switch designed especially to give a good cost- to-performance ratio. The author describes the Cello system concept-that is, the Cello plat- Form and development environments-Cello node topology, the execution Platform, and key new hardware.
