OPEC and Its Role in World Oil Supply

This contribution touches upon a number of issues surrounding OPEC and the oil market, including the outlook for world oil in the long-term, environmental concerns and industry challenges. In September, OPEC will celebrate its 40th anniversary. The Organization, after decades of direct involvement in the world oil market where it has both achieved major accomplishments, and also at times faced enormous pressures, has grown into a mature group which plays an essential role, contrib- uting towards stability in the international oil market.
