In the year 1995 the development of an under ground gas storage for the regio- nal gas supplier for Thuringia, the Gasver- sorgung Thuringen GmbH (GVT) was start- ed in the former depleted gas field in the new red sandstone reservoir Allmenhausen. In preparation, 11 no longer needed water Injection wells were abandoned and 10 verti- Cal wells were equipped with packer installa- Tions and new wellheads for gas injection/- Withdrawal. A new measuring and control- ling station without compressor was imple- mented which could be operated in automat- ic mode without personnel on site.
