Enlargement of the Gas Storage Allmenhausen with Horizontal Wells

In spring 2001, a project for the Gas- versorgung Thuringen GmbH was suc- cessfully completed which, in many aspects, broke new ground. Whilst new records for depth or horizontal distances are regularly achieved by famous companies in oil and gas exploration and production drilling, and this has been the case of decades, UGS GmbH, in close co-operation with Baker Hughes INTEQ, succeeded in drilling and completing a well with a total length of 711 m, a vertical depth of 400 m and a horizontal displacement of 350 m in 41 days at the gas reservoir Allmen- hausen in Thuringen. This is the first hori- zontal well for gas storage purposes ever in eastern Germany.
