One of the leading misconceptions about sustainability is that it is wholly the responsibility of industry to manufacture sustainable products and spread them through society. Certainly, business does bear considerable responsibility both in manufacturing sustainable products and removing from the market those that take a heavy toll on the earth's natural resources. However, business cannot be expected to stem the exhaustion of nonrenew-able resources if consumers do not choose to purchase and use sustainable products in an environmentally responsible manner.
