Americans have long been fascinated by wildfire as revealed by plentiful nonfiction books detailing the environmental and social history of forest fires from New Mexico to Alaska. Now a serious book has been written about American Great Plains prairie fire that was a defining ecological influence on the 1.3 million km~2 Great Plains.
