Chris Pearson is one of a growing number of scholars investigating the environmental history of war. Most recently, historians in this field have begun to explore not only the environmental history of combat, but the more complex history of militarized landscapes. Pearson's Mobilizing Nature: The Environmental History of War and Militarization in Modern France is a welcome contribution to this recent scholarship.
