Enlightenment's Frontier examines the Scottish Highlands as a laboratory of enlightenment between 1750 and 1820. Fredrik Albritton Jonsson puts natural history back into the Scottish Enlightenment and gives it a prominent place in environmental history. Peat moss, peak coal, species extirpation, and island ecologies now must take pride of place alongside trade, commerce, and empire as constitutive elements of classical political economy, the Scottish Enlightenment and environmentalism.
