Our growing knowledge of planet Earth allows for a het-erogenous awareness and views of reality, which logically leads to disagreement. It is this conflict that Mike Hulme targets in his excellent work Why we disagree about climate change-Understanding controversy, inaction and opportunity. In a search for common ground and solutions in this debate, Hulme focuses on ten different viewpoints. He begins with the "Social meanings of climate" and defines climate in its physical and cultural aspects, and as an ideology-involving racism, our concepts of nature, its wildness, and our attempts to control it.
