Pumped minewaters discharged from the Durham Coalfield are net alkaline hybrid waters (i.e., recent recharge, plus coalfield brine, plus pyrite oxidation products). The effects of recharge events appear to be dilution of the brine component but Addition of pyrite oxidation products.
