Sweden to extend one-way deposit system to steel

The Swedish government wants to revise its one-way deposit system for beverage packaging so that all materials are covered, notably steel, from mid May 2005. On 14 June the Swedish Environment Ministry notified the draft law to the European Commission, after holding consultations for over a year. This measure, recommended by the Swedish Competition Council, will clear up confusion for consumers and will be welcomed by industry, as there will be no more discrimination between steel and aluminium.
