Moderate 2007-2013 environment spending boost proposed

The EU could spend EUD 5 billion on environmental protection, or 0.7% of the total EU EUD 1025 billion budget for 2007-2013, the European Commission proposed this month. It would mean that, on average, EUD 729 million could be spent for 'green' purposes during each of the seven years the draft EU 'financial perspectives' cover. This can be compared with the money pot reserved for transport and energy matters - totalling almost EUD 21 billion, or EUD 3 billion annually.
