Waste shipments regulation adopted - for now

Trade and industry ministers at the 29-30 May Competitiveness Council adopted the waste shipments regulation as an A point, so without discussion. However the new rules risk being annulled, given the fight over their legal base. The new law, which aims to harmonise rules on cross-border shipments worldwide, will apply to shipments within the EU or being exported from, imported into and transiting through a member state, even if the dispatching and importing country are both outside the bloc.
