Environment Council to adopt common position on mercury despite member state concern

The Environment Council of 20 December is expected to adopt its formal first stage - or "common" - position on a proposed regulation banning mercury exports and providing for safe storage in the EU. Member states officials have cleared the text ready to put it to the upcoming Council for clearance without discussion (as an "A" point), despite the fact that six member states are concerned by the issue of storage.
