Definitions and crates key to next Article 21 Committee

National experts will turn their attention to the everlasting topic of what is and what is not packaging at next year's Article 21 Committee, a European Commission DG Environment official has said. The Committee, made up of officials dealing with packaging in all 27 member states, will also review the derogation for plastic crates from the heavy metal limits, due to expire in 2009. "We are still working on the definitions," the official told EE & PL. "Not many member states are keen on responding on this, but examples are there. We want to be more precise and have examples for which we do not need a Commission Decision [saving a lot of time] which will help the member states."
