Doctors and NGOs ask Dancet to back substitution in REACH

Three associations have joined forces to call on Geert Dancet, the new head of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), to maximise the benefits of the REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) Regulation. At Mr Dancet's hearing in front of the European Parliament on 21 November (see EE & PL: 23 November 2007, pl), the International Society of Doctors for the Environment (ISDE), the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) and CHEMTrust published an open letter urging Mr Dancet to back the precautionary principle and to support a strong policy of substitution in phasing out harmful substances under REACH.
