摘要

Europe's pesticide makers are unhappy about provisions on endocrine disruptors in the draft regulation that MEPs and the Council agreed this week.rn"We've got real reservations about the criteria for endocrine disruptors," Phil Newton, Head of Communications at the European Crop Protection Association told EE&PL, adding, that the language used in the text is "really nonsensical from a scientific perspective."rnWhen asked in what way, Newton replied with an analogy about cows having an udder and four legs, and "in the legislation it's as if all animals with four legs and an udder are now cows."rnNewton said that some of the substances now classed as endocrine disruptors might not be, but are all lumped together as if they have endocrine disrupting properties, "it's simply a matter of wording."rnECPA is calling for an independent scientific assessment of the legislation and what constitutes an endocrine disruptor "so we can avoid this type of error."rnNewton said that ECPA had wanted to have the European Food Safety Authority take a look and give its opinion, but he complained the agency "has not been allowed into the discussion."
