Sarkozy gets a BUSINESSEUROPE pep talk

The French Presidency must not get bogged down in institutional crises and stay focused on important issues like energy and climate change. This was one of the main messages from the Confederation of European Business BUSINESSEUROPE, in an open letter to French President Nicholas Sarkozy this month. The letter stressed the crucial timing of the French EU Presidency, indicating that "it will be during your Presidency that a new energy policy will be debated and in all probability, decided." BUSINESSEUROPE also urged the Mr Sarkozy to consider the impact of the revision of the European greenhouse gas emission trading system (EU ETS) on energy intensive businesses, outlining the "negative effects" this might cause on them.
