Saving CO_2 emissions: waste and climate change conference

Increasing Europe's municipal waste recycling rate from 37 to 65 per cent could save up to 144 million tonnes CO_2 equivalents every year. That is a message of a recent study from OEkopol, the German research institute, to be highlighted at a high level conference on waste and climate change next week. The study, to be discussed at the 31 January-1 February event in London, also said that the municipal recycling rate of 37 per cent currently saves 160 million tonnes of CO_2 equivalents each year compared to zero recycling.
