摘要

The choice of whether to cultivate GMOs should be left to each individual member state, the Dutch government will tell the Agriculture Council next week (23 March). The Dutch say that a possible solution to the problems on GMOs would be for internal market rules to apply on the import of products - with a decision at EU level. But for cultivation it could be left to each member state. The Dutch government has support proposals by the Commission to approve GMOs but is concerned that socio economic issues are not considered and wants these to be included. "The Dutch government recognises... that the European legislation on GMOs is not taking into account the recent developments and worries in EU society and socio economic dimensions of use and market access of GMOs," says the statement for the Council.
