Denmark To Charge For Cattle Methane Emissions

The Danish Tax Commission (DTC) has announced proposals for new climate change taxes and levies, which include levies on methane production from ruminants such as cattle, sheep and goats. The ruminant digestive system produces methane as a by-product, unlike mono-gastrates (such as pigs and humans). According to the DTC, a cow produces the methane gas equivalent of 4 tonnes of CO2 annually, compared with 2.7t of CO2 per year from the average car.
