USDA responds to industry complaints about pesticide data

Three agencies that rely on the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Pesticide Data Program (PDP) agreed at a meeting last week to re-examine the message accompanying USDA's annual reports in response to industry concerns about the data being used by consumer advocacy groups to label certain fruits and vegetables as unsafe.rnUSDA has been managing PDP with information on 440 different pesticides on 85 commodities since 1991. It publishes annual reports on pesticide residues found on a wide range of fresh commodities, including apples, bell peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, grapes and hot peppers, as well as other foods, such as catfish, eggs and canned spinach.
