Banati retains EFSA board chair, board condemns criticism

The European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA's) Management Board last week stood up to critics by re-appointing Hungarian Diana Banati chair and issuing a unanimous statement condemning those -notably French Green MEP Jose Bove (see last week's issue) - who had questioned her independence.rnOpening the 21 October meeting, which was public, Banati, an expert on a range of matters including genetically modified organisms (GMOs), announced that she was "the new Chair" with the Vice Chairs being Sue Davies of the UK and Italian Piergiuseppe Facelli. She said that the Board had elected the three in a private session before the public meeting.
