As the controversy surrounding deposit schemes seems unlikely to go away - Finland, while never seen as a major culprit on the deposit front - is now unlikely to please bottle deposit critics by reaching a nearly-90 per cent collection rate last year.rnCollection system Suomen Palautsuspakkaus Oy (PALPA) Ltd said that the highest return rate of nearly 100 per cent was achieved for glass bottles, up from 98 per cent in 2008. The most significant improvement was seen for PET bottles, where collection increased from 74 to 89 per cent last year. Meanwhile the collection rate for aluminium cans topped 90 per cent again, indeed increasing two percentage points, to 92 per cent.
