MEP adamant on need for new biowaste rules

Following a European Parliament resolution as long ago as 2002 on the 6th Environmental Action Programme, demanding a stand-alone directive on biowaste, Environment Committee rapporteur Jose Manuel Fernandes is pressing his case for putting all the rules relating to biowaste under one roof.rnThe Spanish Socialist MEP told the Informa UK European Biowaste Forum last week that the Environment Committee would be likely to adopt a draft report by June [plenary adoption scheduled June or July], with a first discussion in the last week of April. Playing down concerns over Commission opposition to a bio-waste directive, he indicated that that Parliament would "follow its own thoughts".
