Study advises PFOA phase out could start 2015

A comprehensive study into perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), a substance commonly used in non-stick cookware coatings and weatherproof clothing, has suggested that a phase out of direct uses could start in 2015.rnWhile the study that consultants RPS drew up for the Chemicals Unit in the European Commission's DG Enterprise found no evidence to support additional restrictions now, it called for more research. The consultants were asked to analyse the risks from not only PFOA but also ammonium perfluorooctanoate (APFO) covering industrial applications as well as their use in consumer goods and to assess risk reduction measures.
