EEB calls for environmental inspections directive

The EU should strive to end its failure to solve its environmental problems by harmonising environmental inspection regimes, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) told a high level stakeholder conference on "EU environmental law -how we can do better", last week. This conference was discussed again at this week's Environment Council in Luxembourg. "One of the evident problems at member states level is the divergence in the quality of national inspection and enforcement regimes," the EEB's Secretary General Jeremy Wates said. "Member states have historically resisted efforts to establish a harmonised environmental inspection regime.
