MEP Leinen calls for environmental inspection directive

The European Commission needs to put forward a directive on environmental inspection to increase its capacity to ensure implementation of environmental legislation, according to German Socialist MEP Jo Leinen. Discussing his new report on the priorities for the Seventh Environmental Action Programme (7EAP) at the 23 January meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), Leinen, who was Chair until last month, said that the new EAP needed to focus on "three Ts": implementation, integration and internationalisation.
