摘要

A senior official from the European Commission's health and consumer protection arm DG SANCO has underlined that efforts to reduce food waste - if central to current thinking (see stories this issue) -should not go ahead if it meant putting people at risk of food poisoning.Chantal Bruetschy, who heads up DG SANCO's Innovation and Sustainability unit, told the EE&PL-sponsored Combating Food Waste in the EU conference earlier this month, "We have to prevent food waste," but she went on to stress, "not at the expense of food safety."
