Ireland increases its landfill levy

Landfill charges rose steeply this month in Ireland -from €30 to €50 per tonne - and will reach a hefty €75 per tonne from July 2013. The change to the landfill levy came under the 2011 Act which aims to further divert waste from landfill and encourage the development of other types of waste facilities. The 2011 Act also introduces changes to allow greater flexibility to change the plastic bag levy.
