EU to test Japanese food following nuclear scare

EU member states have backed European Commission moves to impose special import conditions on food and feed imports from Japan in light of radiation concerns. All food and feed products originating from the 12 Japanese prefectures most at risk from nuclear fallout will have to be tested before leaving Japan, and will be subject to random testing at the EU end. The products in question will also have to carry an accompanying declaration attesting that the radionuclides levels do not breach EU upper thresholds.
