European Parliament rocked by 'cash for amendments' scandal

The European Parliament is reeling following allegations published in UK newspaper the Sunday Times over the weekend that three MEPs were ready to accept payments in return for filing amendments to an upcoming finance law. Two Socialists the Slovenian Zoran Thaler and Romanian Adrian Severin and Austrian Ernst Strasser from Parliament's centre right European People's Party (EPP) were all allegedly ready to accept cash for tabling the amendments in the sting operation mounted by undercover reporters posing as lobbyists. All three are members of Parliament's influential Committee on Foreign Affairs.
