Be efficient and save €26 billion, UK businesses told

UK businesses could save €26.5 billion (￡23 billion) a year simply through a more efficient use of energy, materials and water, according to a new report by the UK's Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). According to Defra's research, published three days after the European Commission released its Energy Efficiency Plan (see previous story), more efficient use of raw materials and reducing waste could save ￡8 billion (€9.2 billion), with savings possible for energy ￡4 billion (€4.6 billion) and water ￡1 billion (€1.15 billion).
