Call on Commission to set EU criteria to calculate plastic recycling rate

Pressure is mounting for the European Commission to develop EU-wide criteria for calculating plastic recycling rates, EE&PL has learned. Earlier this month, the Dutch State Secretary for Infrastructure and the Environment, Joop Atsma, said that he wanted to review the point at which plastic packaging waste statistics are reported. In a letter to the Dutch Parliament, he explained that he wanted this debate to take place at EU level to ensure a common reference point and avoid varying recycling figures.
