Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik has unequivocally backed green taxation in a question and answer session with MEPs. Speaking to the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee last week, the Commissioner mapped out the four approaches that Europe needed to adopt to achieve a resource efficient economy, just before the launch of its resource efficiency initiative on 26 January (see article this issue). Among the four was the need to steer the market towards resource efficiency through a range of market-based instruments.
