UK: Parliament backs higher packaging recycling targets

Increased recycling targets for plastic, aluminium and steel packaging are set to come into force in the UK in January 2013, after MPs agreed to amended packaging waste regulations in Parliament last week. While the steel target has only to rise from 71 per cent in 2012 to 76 per cent in 2017, the goal for aluminium has to jump from 40 to 55 per cent, with plastics facing a 25 per cent increase to 57 per cent.
