Barroso calls for global solution to climate change

A global solution to climate change is essential, according to European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in his state of the Union address last week. Along with his speech to MEPs on 12 September, Barroso also sent a letter to European Parliament President German Socialist Martin Schulz listing the priority areas for the Commission, which on top of fighting climate change include energy efficiency in transport, air quality, facilitating the development of intelligent energy networks and smart meters, and maintaining the momentum of Rio+20.
