Greek landfill and wastewater failings could mean court

A poorly managed Greek landfill site and insufficient wastewater facilities in 12 different areas could see Greece referred to the EU Court of Justice if it fails to respond adequately to two reasoned opinions that the European Commission is sending. The Commission said on 31 May it was sending Greece the reasoned opinions and that it would have two months to put its house in order or face being referred to the EU Court in both cases. A Commission statement on the cases said that the first concerns waste management in the Peloponnese, specifically, the inadequate functioning of the Kiato landfill.
