Air pollution crossing continents to damage crops, report finds

Man-made air pollution generated in the Northern Hemisphere's major industrialised regions has been found to damage important agricultural crops, not just in the local area but up to thousands of miles downwind. A study by the University of Leeds and the University of York found that pollution originating in North America could be causing Europe to lose over one million tonnes of wheat every year. Furthermore, it also suggests that increasing levels of air pollution from one continent may partly offset efforts to cut carbon emissions in another.
