Ministers to mull over maritime transport and biodiversity

Environment ministers meet this Friday 13 December in Brussels to debate maritime transport and the effect of "invasive alien species" on biodiversity. They will exchange views on a draft regulation to set up a system to monitor, report and verify carbon emissions from maritime transport. The European Commission presented its proposal in July, the purpose being to ensure that greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships are monitored and reported as the first step to reduce these emissions.
