UK supermarket giant pledges to stamp out food waste

Tesco has revealed it generated 28,500 tonnes of food waste in the first six months of 2013 in its stores and distribution centres throughout the UK. Using its own data and industry-wide figures, it also estimated that across the UK food industry as a whole, 68 per cent of salad sold in bags, 47 per cent of bakery items, 40 per cent of apples and bananas, and 24 per cent of grapes were wasted, reports our sister publication Agra Europe.
