EFSA open to group pre-submission meetings, acting head Url tells MEPs

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) might be prepared to offer groups of companies pre-submission meetings to help prepare claims applications in particular, the agency's acting Executive Director Bernhard Url told MEPs at the end of last week. Url had been summoned to the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee for a 17 October exchange of views on "the functioning of the EFSA health claims authorisation system in general and on the proposed mechanism of a pre-submission consultation." The discussion followed a request from British Conservative MEP Julie Girling for an internal Parliament report into the workings of the claims authorisation system for probiotics in particular.
